Betty L. (Estelle) Barnes, age 89 of Iowa City died at her home, Friday August 21, 2020.

Betty Lou Estelle was born May 25, 1931, in Rock Island, Illinois the daughter of Jack and Georgia (Abbott) Estelle. Following graduation from Iowa City, City High School in 1949, she attended Trinity School of Theology in Chicago, Illinois. She received her degree in Elementary Education here and also met her future husband, Wendell. For a few years she taught school in Illinois. On August 20, 1960 she was united in marriage to Wendell M. Barnes. The couple became missionaries in Italy, where the raised their family. They moved back to this area in 1988. Here she was an active member of High Point City Church, active in supporting youth missions around the world, and a supporter of the Slovak Gospel Association.
Her family includes her husband of 60 years, Wendell; three daughters and their husbands, Rebecca Mueller (Phil), Lisa Anderson (Guine), and Martha Raquet (Jeff); 9 grandchildren, Kyle, Shawn, Sarah, Isabella, Daniela, Joshua, Timothy, Christy and Matthew; 3 great-grandchildren, Van, Clara and Emery and two sisters, Allene Hall and Dorothy Estelle.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Evelyn White and Mary Schlaht.
