Carolyn Rose Robertson Hufferd, 76, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at UIHC.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 7, 2020 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a family service will follow with Rev. Brooks Simpson officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Garrett Cemetery in rural Delta, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or the Ronald McDonald House in memory of Tyler Bradley, Carolyn’s great nephew.
Carolyn was born to Thomas Jefferson Bradley Jr. and Lenore Marie Sawyer on September 23, 1943, at home on the family farm in rural Keokuk County. Carolyn married Thomas Robertson on November 14, 1964, in Ollie, Iowa. In 1967 they moved to Iowa City where they built a home and raised their family. She received a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Iowa in 1997 with Honors. On December 7, 2012, Carolyn married Steven Hufferd.

Carolyn was a service representative with Northwestern Bell and later AT&T for over 25 years. She enjoyed cheering on University of Iowa athletes, especially basketball. Later, she was employed at ACT for several years.

Carolyn was a member of Open Waves Square Dance Club and Grace Community Church. She was a long-time volunteer with Iowa City Hospice, Mercy Gift Shop, and Regina Elementary.

Carolyn enjoyed recounting childhood memories of the mischief she and her brothers got themselves into on the farm. Growing up, she learned the value of family and love from her parents. Carolyn was a lot like her mother in the way that she loved to travel, bake goodies (especially brownies), and tend to flowers and vegetables in her garden. She knew how to raise every vegetable possible with her green thumb and hearty spirit. Providing for her family through canned goods, fresh produce, and delicious pies was a symbol of who she was as a mother and grandmother. Carolyn loved to travel with her brothers, sisters-in-law, and mother throughout the United States and Europe. On one notable trip, she was so excited to go to Canada with two friends from high school that she left her passport at home in Iowa City. Carolyn also loved to attend the Old Creamery Theatre in Amana with her family for over two decades. Most important to Carolyn was her family. She was especially devoted to her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to attending family dinners throughout the week to spend more time with her beloved family. She loved hearing stories about her grandchildren and seeing photos on the rare occasion when she could not attend one of their activities. Carolyn was thoughtful and caring, and always sent birthday cards to family and friends. Her infectious smile and positive attitude warmed the hearts of those she touched. Everyone she met instantly knew she was a genuine, kind-hearted, and altruistic woman. She always reassured her kids that “Everything will be all right.”

Carolyn is survived by her second husband, Steven Hufferd of Iowa City; her daughter, Joan (Juan) Ochoa of Iowa City and their children, Ian and Tatiana; her son, Greg (Amy) Robertson of Marion and their children, Breck and Kynley; her brothers, Gerald (Patricia) Bradley and Arvene (Betty) Bradley, both of Ottumwa; her niece and nephews, Bryan, Jeff, Debbie, and their families; step-children, Tina (Tim) Lewellen, Bryan (Debra) Hufferd, and Andrea (Jim) Cooper, all of Texas; ten step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Glenn Lekin; and her great nephew, Tyler.

Online condolences may be sent to www.lensingfuneral.com. For family and friends that do attend, please respect CDC guidelines on face coverings and social distancing.
