Norma Jean Murphy, 77, lifelong resident of Hills died June 29, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after long illness.

Visitation will be Wednesday July 1, 2020 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, where the rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Private graveside services will be held at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Hills. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the American Heart Association or Iowa City Hospice.

Norma was born July 16, 1942 in Hills to Ralph and Francis (Draker) Fountain. She graduated from Iowa City High before she met the love of her life, Leonard Murphy. The couple bought a house just before getting married on November 28, 1965 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills. They enjoyed 54 memorable years together, eventually having their son, Tim.

Between raising her son, working various part-time jobs, and eventually working full-time at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, she always stayed busy. Norma endured a massive stroke at age 57 which paralyzed her right side, causing her to relearn her everyday tasks through many years of therapy. Her husband provided the best love and care for her for the last 22 years.

Norma loved playing Bingo, before and after her illness, and was always lucky enough to win. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and an avid Hawkeye fan. Her illness did not stop her from being positive or keeping busy and was able to find new hobbies, whether it was doing puzzles or different arts and crafts. Most of all, she loved time spent with family.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard of Hills; her son, Tim (Cathy) Murphy of Davenport; her granddaughter Allie (Allen) Monaghan and two great-grandchildren, Khloe and Kylie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Carolyn Worley and Karen Rohret, and her brother Ralph Fountain.
