Dale F. Powers, age 92 of Iowa City formerly of Columbus Junction died at his home, Monday, May 18, 2020.
Dale was born October 2, 1927, near Letts, Iowa the son of Forrest and Eunice “Ruth” (Diller) Powers. Following graduation from Letts High School in 1945, he attended one year of business college in Chillicothe, Missouri. On January 1, 1946, he married Charlotte Poindexter in Hale, MO. The couple made their home in Fredonia where they raised their family. Dale served as Mayor of Fredonia for several years and worked as an auto mechanic for many years at the local Ford Dealership, Mincer Ford in Columbus Junction. Dale loved his community, he was active in the Lions Club, was a boy scout leader (sharing his experiences from his childhood as a life scout), coached and umpired softball, and true to his core, he enjoyed his stock car racing! Charlotte died in 1990.
On a blind date, he met Anna Weber and was ok with her since she drove a Mercury Cougar. This date would eventually turn into second marriages for both on August 22, 1992. The couple moved to Iowa City to retire and here they belonged to the First United Methodist Church. Dale kept busy working around the house, able to fix, build and care for anything that needed his touch. He loved his family and cherished his time with them and their friends.
His family includes his wife, Anna; children, Lonnie Powers (Jackie); and Steven Powers (Tonya); step-children, Joyce Ruplinger (Frank) and John Weber (Sarah); 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; 5 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Linda Branch (Lester) and Donna Gorrell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; daughter, Cathy Arola; a stepson, Robert Weber; and a brother Eldon Powers.
