Grace BOMPEMPELI KANDA LUMBU was born on July 09, 1992 in Kinshasa Democratic Republic of the Congo to Pierre BOMPAPU BOMPEMPELI and Marie Josee MBOMBA NTOLU.

Grace is the youngest in a family of four: Rose Akulubie, Guylain BOMPEMPELI and Yolande BOMPEMPELI.

He attended primary school at Kinshasa and College and Saint RAPHAEL, as the family followed his father’s career Grace did Highschool at LUBUMBASHI at IMARA college where he got his diploma in Biology and Chemistry with 62%.

In 2013, he moved from LUBUMBASHI to Kinshasa when he won Dv lottery. And in 2014, Grace moved to the USA where he attended Kirkwood Community College and was a very active student, helping as a translator with college tutoring, orientation day for all French speaking international students.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City at 11:00 a.m. Because of current state regulations regulating the number in attendance, persons are encouraged to view live streaming of the services through Facebook by searching “Remembering Grace K. Bompempeli” and request to join the group.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2 to 5 pm at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Because only 10 people are allowed in the funeral home at a time, staff will be admitting new families and friends as people leave. PLEASE PLAN TO STAY IN YOUR VEHICLES UNTIL DIRECTED TO ENTER. You may also choose to drive past the west chapel doors to see the family but you MUST stay in your vehicle as you drive by (the family will not leave the funeral home to greet you, but will see you as the doors will be open.) The funeral home will have staff and signs assisting you.
