Judy Lynne Young, 50, of Los Angeles, California, died Monday May 16, 2005, of lung cancer though she was a non-smoker who exercised and ate properly.

Services will be at 4:00 PM on Thursday May 19th at First Presbyterian Church 2701 Rochester Ave, Iowa City, with Rev. Ed Morgan officiating. There will be a gathering time following the service at the church. Judy was born on November 2, 1954, to Robert O. and Sylvia M. Young, in Los Angeles, California. She was the second of their two children. Her family moved to West Covina, CA, when she was two years old. She lived in CA until 1991, when she and her family moved to Iowa. Judy received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Azusa Pacific University in 1976, her teaching credential from APU in 1977, and her Master of Arts degree in elementary education at the University of Iowa in 2002. She was employed with the Iowa City Community School District as a fifth and sixth grade teacher at Helen Lemme Elementary School. She loved children and took her job as an opportunity to make children aware of their own unique gifts.

Judy had a wonderful life and considered each day to be a gift. Judy was formerly married to Christopher Reeves, with whom she had two wonderful children, Daniel (23) and Deborah (20).

Throughout Judy’s illness, she was provided with comfort by Hospice and by a special group of friends who were considered her “Share the Care” family. She deeply appreciated each person who entered her life. Her main frustration was the inability to find the words to express how appreciative she was of each person who reached out and touched her. Her last few days were a gift to her family and friends with many precious moments together.

Survivors of Ms. Young include her son, Daniel Scott Reeves and her daughter, Deborah Anne Reeves; her parents, Robert O. and Sylvia M. Young; her sister, Kathryn Lori Partrick; numerous friends and family from California and Iowa. She wishes she could name them all.

Judy is donating her body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for research purposes.
