Jean A. (Stelpflug) Sweitzer, 77, of Pelham, died peacefully on April 1, 2020. She was born June
8, 1942 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the daughter of Fred Stelpflug and Aurelia (Taylor) Stelpflug.
She married Richard (Dick) Sweitzer, on September 2, 1961. She graduated from Iowa City High
School and attended the University of Iowa. Together, they moved from Iowa City, IA, to Needham,
MA, and later moved to Vestavia Hills, AL. Dick and Jean enjoyed 59 years of marriage. In addition
to her loving husband, Dick Sweitzer of Pelham, Jean is survived by their daughter Julie Caine and
husband Larry of Hoover; son David and wife Krissee (Cornelius) of Hoover; their grandchildren:
Timothy Caine (Rebecca); Alex Sweitzer; Nicholas Caine; Rowan Sweitzer and Holden Sweitzer.
She is also survived by her brother Allan Stelpflug, wife Dee (Van Horn) and their three daughters,
of St. Ansgar, IA.
Jean will be cremated, but no further arrangements have been made at this time. A celebration of
life will be planned at a later date.
