John Charles Hummer was born December 15, 1958, in Iowa City the son of Ronold H. Hummer Sr. “Buck” and Joan E. (Villhauer) Hummer. John attended and graduated from Clear Creek High School. Being born into a trucking family means that you probably know a bit about trucking, and this John did! John's love for trucking started at an early age when he began working for his dad, he began sweeping the floors, cleaning out livestock trailers, and helping with other shop duties, until he was finally old enough to drive one of his dads semi's. Throughout the decades John continued to work in every aspect of the trucking industry. He was known as one of the best dispatchers in his day. His trucking career started with Buck Hummer Trucking. John also worked for Lou Sommerville Trucking, Don Hummer Trucking, R.H. Hummer Jr Trucking, and was currently driving for Schubert Trucking. The most rewarding part of his career was being an over the road driver. 10-4 over and out.
John's three grandchildren were the light of his life. He was their "Papa". Very precious moments were rides in the big truck. Showing the boys how it's done. You can bet it was a huge deal! Beacon lights and air horns almost every time. Not sure who's face would light up more John or the boys. He really enjoyed the time spent with them and his daughters. He loved to spoil them with his " great deals" and candy.
His family includes his mother, Joan Hummer; two daughters, Mary Jo Hummer (Joe Campbell) and Jessica Ruckebeil (Paul Jr.); three grandchildren, Mason, Paul III, and Penelope; brothers, Ronald H. Hummer Jr. and Donald Hummer (Dru); sister, Connie Steckly (Tony); and nine nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his father, Buck Hummer and his son, Adam Hummer.
