Janice S. Nelson, 94, of Iowa City, and longtime resident of Goldfield, Iowa, died Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Melrose Meadows in Iowa City.

Janice was born December 10, 1925, in Garden City, Minnesota, to Leroy and Pearl (Craigmile) Little. She grew up in Farnhamville, Iowa, and graduated from Lake City High School in 1943. After high school she traveled to California to work in a secretarial pool and later as a riveter making wings and drop tanks for the Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft. Thereafter, she became employed as a secretary at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

Following WWII, Janice moved to Goldfield, Iowa, where she met Donald E. Nelson and the couple was united in marriage on January 21, 1951. She helped operate the family farm and raise their three daughters. She loved her flower garden and books and made beautiful quilts. Janice moved to Iowa City in 2011 following the death of her husband.

Survivors include her daughters, Debra Stevenson (Don) of Puerto Penasco, Mexico and Flagstaff, AZ; Denise Schick (Steven) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Diane Culver (David) of Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.

Janice chose to be cremated with a private memorial service scheduled at a later time. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, Iowa. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial donations may be directed to the family. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, two brothers, and two sisters.
