Jeffrey William Nehring, 51, passed away February 17, 2020, at the Bird House Hospice Home in Iowa City.

His family will greet friends Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue in Iowa City, from 1:30 to 4:00 pm. A Celebration of Jeff’s life and sharing of memories will begin at 4:00 pm.

Instead of sending flowers and plants, the family kindly requests considering memorial donations to Iowa City Hospice, Mercy Hospice or The Bird House Hospice Home.

Jeff was born in Davenport, Iowa, and grew up in Tipton, Iowa. His interest in music started at a very young age and he started singing in his first band before his voice had even changed. After graduating from high school, Jeff moved to Iowa City to attend college and he began performing as a vocalist in several local bands. He fronted well-known bands like The Incredible Day Glow Bomber Boys and The Roughousers, but it was Los Marauders that brought him the most attention. Los Marauders released one album, two singles, and were featured on numerous compilation records. Although not a household name, Los Marauders' wild rockabilly sound brought them a loyal cult status across the US and beyond.

An excellent boxing coach, Jeff was responsible for getting a number of amateur and professional boxers their start. He was one of the founders of ICOR boxing and played a role, along with co-founder Adam Pollack, in getting the state of Iowa to recognize women's boxing.

Jeff worked at the University of Iowa Hospital Laundry for over twenty years. He was well-loved for his fun-loving personality, his over the top sense of humor, his loyal friendship and his willingness to help others learn the ropes.

Eventually, Jeff scaled back his involvement with music and boxing and dedicated his time and energy to being a dad. A devoted and caring father, Jeff's children became his main inspiration and focus in life.

Although most known for his overwhelming stage character, in his heart, Jeff was a big teddy bear. Nearly everyone who knew Jeff has a story showing his generous nature. After he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, Jeff made it his goal to have a lasting positive impact on every person he came in contact with. He continued like this even when his voice was weakened to little more than a whisper. It was truly an amazing thing to witness.

Jeff is survived by his children, Panda, Daniel and Logan, brother Ed, sister in law Susie, nephew Navaro, his parents, Bill and Mary Nehring of Tiffin, and his former wife, Aurl Jin Vornbrock.
