DEATH TAKES M. H. MAHER
Former City Plumbing Inspector Dies at Hospital Today
Mr. Matthew H. Maher, 72, died at a local hospital here today following an illness of several years. He had been confined to the hospital since June 1937.

Mr. Maher was a charter member of the Iowa City Elks lodge, being one of the members of the class initiated in 1900. He had also served for many years as city plumbing inspector but had retired from active duty several years ago.

He was born in Iowa City in 1867 and had lived here his entire life. He was the son of Matthew and Anne Maher, who were pioneer residents in the city.

One sister, Mrs. James Mullen, of Colorado, survives, in addition to several nieces and nephews. He was unmarried.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at S. Patrick's church at 9 o'clock and burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery. The remains are at the Hohenschuh mortuary.

Members of the Elks lodge will hold a "lodge of sorrow" meeting in memory of Mr. Maher at the regular meeting tomorrow night.
