Margaret Penland, 94, formerly of 2128 S. Riverside Dr, died Wednesday, January 16, 2002 in the Lone Tree Health Care Center after a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church by the Rev. Michael Phillips. Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery

Margaret was born Oct 18, 1907 in Iowa City, the daughter of James and Sophia (Rayman) Fisher. She was united in marriage to Clark Penland on June 3, 1935 in Shenandoah. She was a lifelong resident of Iowa City and had owned and operated the Campus Grill in Iowa City until 1956. She was also a home health care nurse's aid for 20 years.

Margaret was a lifelong member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and member of St. Wenceslaus Altar & Rosary Society; Iowa City Federated Women's Club; and VFW Women's Auxiliary. She was a former member of Women of the Moose. Margaret enjoyed fishing, cooking and just visiting with people.

Survivors include her brother David Fisher and his wife Geri of Harlingen, TX; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her caretaker Karen Baculis of Iowa City.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Walter M. Penland; a daughter, Mary M. Penland; a sister Dorothy Gaffey; and three brothers, Walter, Leo and Jim.
