Born December 30, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Laurance and Mary (Bukacek) Ham, Laura grew up in Iowa City and graduated from Iowa City High School.

Laura married Clifford Huff on September 19, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA. Clifford died in January of 1978. Laura later married Jack W. Dooley in October of 1978 in Iowa City. Jack died in 1989.

Throughout her career, Laura worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania and after moving to Iowa City in 1964, NW Bell in Iowa City and telecommunications for the University of Iowa.

Survivors include her son, Brad Huff (Susan) of Solon; nieces and nephews, Barbara (Michael), Jeffrey Ruppert (Jean) and Lori Kowalke (Fred), all of Iowa City.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Clifford and Jack, infant sister Doris Ann, brother Charles Ham and a sister and brother in law, Mary and John Ruppert.

Laura loved animals and was a supporter of the humane society. During her working years, Laura was a supporter of Smile Train. She couldn’t imagine babies without access to surgery needed to restore their lives.
