DEATH CLAIMS WHOLE FAMILY

A message from California, announces the death of Willis Conrad, a custodian of the San Francisco mint, during the last 26 years.

He was born and reared here, and was about 70 years of age.

His wife and three children, and his aged mother were swept away by diphtheria in California, and his father died here, before the Conrads went to California. Thus, the whole family of seven are wiped out.

Mr. Conrad was a druggist in Iowa City long ago, having been a clerk in M. W. Davis' pioneer pharmacy, on Washington street, near the Jefferson corner. He conducted a drug store on the Coast, also, for a time, but ultimately entered the mint and there served, as noted more than a quarter of a century. He lived at Oakland, although his post of duty was at Frisco.

The sad news of this worthy man's death comes from Colonel John P. Irish to his niece, Miss Elizabeth Irish.
