Rites at Joetown for Dr. F.W. Palmer
KALONA - Dr. Francis W. Palmer, 61, died Friday at his home in Charleston, Ill., following a heart attack.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Hill Church at Joetown, with the Rev. Lloyd Bauer in charge. Burial will be in the cemetery there.
A service will be held Tuesday in Charleston. Friends may call at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona after 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Dr. Palmer was born Sept. 9, 1910 in Johnson County, a son of S.J. and Anna B. Palmer. He married Vira Marner in 1932. She died in 1969.
A graduate of Center High School, he received his doctorate at the University of Iowa in 1939. He spent six years as dean at Kansas Wesleyan College in Salina, and since 1945 had been professor of journalism and news advisor at Easter Illinois University in Charleston.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Red Cross, Illinois Public Aid Association, Kickapoo Rock Club at Mattoon, Ill.
Surviving are two son: Dr. George Palmer of Bloomington, Del., and Bruce of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; five grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Anna Palmer of Kalona; and one brother, Dr. Howard Palmer of West Liberty.
His father and one sister preceded him in death.
