Mrs. G. Bailey Funeral Services Wed., August 20
Mrs. Gertrude L. Bailey, lifelong residents of the Bayertown community northeast of Kalona died at her home Sunday, August 17, 1969 after a long illness at the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 8 days.
A daughter of Philip G. and Rosa Northhouse Bayer, Gertrude was born January 9, 1893. She was married to Archie Bailey on March 5, 1913 at Iowa City.
In her early years she assisted her father in the Bayertown store which was a community center for the area. She was a member of the South Sharon Methodist Church and the Corona Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Bailey was also the Bayertown correspondent for the Kalona News over 50 years, having written news items several weeks prior to her death. Her items will be missed by many in the area.
Funeral services were held at the Peterseim Chapel at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, August 20 with the Rev. Robert Hefty officiating. Interment was made in the South Sharon United Methodist cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the church.
She is survived by one son, Paul of rural Riverside; two grandsons, Tom of rural Riverside and Kirk of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Bailey, Mrs. Carl Hastings and Mrs. Elmer Shalla, all of Iowa City, and one brother Lloyd Bayer of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her husband.IN MEMORY OF
