George Franklin Mires Sr., of North Liberty, IA, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 2pm Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his memory of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church – Organ Fund or Iowa City Hospice. He is survived by his wife Miekka (Heddens) Mires; children, Paul (Brenda) Heddens; Steve (Tonya) Mires, Sandy (John) Traimi, Rick Mires, and George Mires Jr.; sister, Dorothy Cochran; grandchildren, Grace and Brody Heddens, Tomi (Bean) Ridgway, Crystal Bolt, Jennifer Mires.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter & Ruby Mires and his brother, Bill Mires.George was born July 25, 1932, in Madison, Indiana. He joined the Air Force after high school and served during the Korean War. He owned a car dealership in Florida and Georgia and ended his working career in Texas building homes. He loved the time that was spent with family especially watching Brody playing b’ball and football and Grace playing b’ball, soccer and running track.
