Richard Junior “Pat” Murphy, 91, of Iowa City, IA, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019 at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-6 PM, Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Private burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Richard J. Murphy Memorial Fund.
Pat was born on March 16, 1928 in Washington County, IA, the son of Richard and Clara (Kron) Murphy. He was the owner of Murphy’s Automatic Transmissions for 21 years, retiring in 2001. Pat was united in marriage to Anna Porter on September 25, 1965 in North Liberty, IA. He was a member of the Eagles. Pat loved stock car racing and PBR. He co-owned with John Moss Race Car #1 for a couple of years. Pat was also the chief mechanic with Duane Schneider, Ron Hemsted and Big John Moss at local racetracks.
Pat is survived by his wife, Anna of Iowa City; three children, Rebecca Perry of Fresno, CA, Larry (Joy) Murphy of Columbus Junction, IA and Terry “Randy” (Janine) Murphy of Solon, IA; seven grandchildren; four siblings, Mildred Greazel Floyd of Solon, IA, Clifford (Mary) Murphy of Iowa City, IA, Betty Lou Raciborski of Tampa, FL, and Leonard (Norma) Murphy of Hills, IA; and sister-in-law, Pauline Murphy of Richmond, IA.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Warren and Kenneth “Jim” Murphy; and sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jean Murphy, Ralph Greazel and Carl Floyd and Edward Raciborski.
