Brian Downes, 40, of Oxford, Iowa, died Sunday, February 24, 2019 near Dumas, Texas from injuries he received in an automobile accident.

Brian was born October 19, 1978 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Steve and Debbie (Scheetz) Downes. He grew up in the Oxford area. He attended school at Clear Creek Amana and graduated from Iowa City West High School in 1997. In August 2002, he married his high school sweetheart, Lindsey Burkart and they later divorced in 2015.

Brian had a passion for wrestling and football, enjoying many wrestling meets with family and friends. He spent most of his adult life working in the construction and concrete industry, a quality he inherited and appreciated from his dad.

Brian was presently working in Texas for a custom Ag and Harvesting Company, which he thoroughly loved. Brian enjoyed life to its fullest. He always had a story to tell and had a knack for finding a good party. You could sense when he was truly happy, just by the tone of his laugh. Spending time with his two daughters whether it be on FaceTime while hundreds of miles away, or flying them down to see him for his 40th birthday last October; times spent with them were his favorite. They were the loves of his life. He was a pretty great uncle too, always willing to pick on all those girls and give them a hard time.

Brian is survived by his father, Steve Downes of Oxford; his daughters, Madeline and Morgan, both of Tiffin; sisters, Camie Marshek (Keith) of Iowa City and Stephanie Rohret (Brian) of Urbandale and his brother Andrew Downes (Kristen) of Tiffin; nieces Kailee and Kelly Marshek, Charlotte Rohret and Avery Downes, many aunts, uncle and cousins and his former wife, Lindsey Downes of Tiffin.

Memorial donations may be directed to The Brian Downes Educational Fund
to benefit his daughters, Madeline and Morgan Downes.
