L.C. 'MIKE' LAWRENCE
IOWA CITY, Iowa - L.C. 'Mike' Lawrence, 100, a former resident of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018, at the St. Mathias Church. Casket bearers will be his grandsons. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post # 27 and V.F.W. Post # 1565. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Gannon Hall following the committal service.

Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2018, and from 9 until 10 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary Cemetery Association.

Mike was born on January 4, 1918, in Muscatine, the son of Grover C. and Emma Busch Lawrence. He married Lois Eileen McFadden on June 19, 1943, at the St. Mathias Church in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on December 4, 2013.

He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during World War II as a gunnery instructor.

He worked for and retired from Kent Feeds as a district salesman. After retirement, he worked as a tour guide on the Kent Feed boat. He was a member of the Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish, American Legion Post # 27, V.F.W. Post #1565, the Moose Lodge, was a life member of the Elks Lodge, and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Mike was known for his buckeyes and widely distributed them to family and friends.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Michael Lawrence and wife, Nancy, of Muscatine, Patrick Lawrence and wife, Beverly, of Toddville, Mary Lawrence of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sally Holte and husband, Mitch, of Solon, Peggy O'Neil and husband, Paul, of West Branch, and Kathy Tucker and husband, Raymond, of Nashotah, Wisconsin; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a great-grandson; and two brothers, Charles and Gilbert Lawrence.
