19 January 1928 - West Branch Times

Frank James Coulter was born in Graham township, Johnson county, Iowa, on Oct. 4, 1857. He was the oldest son of Dr. and Mrs. J. P. Coulter.

He grew to manhood in and around Iowa City. At the age of twenty-two years he was united in marriage to Jeannette E. Green. To this union were born two children, Clarence Frank Coulter and Mildred Irene Gilchrist. After her death in 1897 he seemed to feel the double responsibility and filled the place of father and mother, being devotion itself. He was engaged in the native lumber business around Iowa City, up to a about three years ago when his business took him to Savanna, Ill., where he passed away Jan. 4, 1928. He is survived by his son Clarence Frank Coulter of Camden, New Jersey, and his daughter Mrs. C. E. Gilchrist of Iowa Falls, by his brother, Elmer Coulter of Iowa City, a sister, Mrs. Sherman Shroder of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Mrs. Cora McKarahan of Des Moines.

He was a member of the K. of P. Lodge and the Christian church, a man of exemplary habits, of true sterling worth. He lived above material things.

The funeral was conducted Saturday afternoon from the Harmon Funeral home by Rev. Guy H. Findly of the Christian church. The Welsh Quartet sang. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.
