Volivia H. Rouse, 88, of 2005 “H” Street, Iowa City, died Friday, March 11, 2005 at her home.

Family services for Volivia were held Sunday evening at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Memorial donations can be made in Volivia‘s memory to the Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for Volivia’s family through our website @gayandciha.com.

Volivia was born in Pendleton, Indiana on April 30, 1916 to Horace and Jennie (Jackson) Huber. She graduated from Short Ridge High School, Indianapolis, Indiana in 1934. Volivia married Walter Rouse on December 25, 1937 in Iowa City. Volivia has been a resident of Iowa City the past 67 years. She was member of the Eastern Star, Iowa City Women’s Club and quilted for many years at the Iowa City Senior Center and with the Johnson County Quilters. Volivia was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed painting, gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading and especially quilting.

Volivia’s family includes her husband of 67 years, Walter, a son Walter M. “Mike” of Waukesha, Wisconsin, a daughter, Sharon Shapcott of Iowa City, 4 grandchildren Elizabeth Fry, Christina Bogust, Walter Michael Rouse III and Sean Rouse. Also 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
