Andrew A. “Andy” Cooper, 65, passed away November 10th at home surrounded by his loving family. Andy had been fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Thursday, November 15th at St. Mary’s Church in Oxford. Father Robert Cloos will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to his family for a memorial fund.

Andy was born June 14, 1953 in Fort Madison, IA to Robert & Mary (Foehring) Cooper. His fighting spirit was nothing new, as he had served in the U.S. Navy for many years. On September 17, 1988 he married Susan Struzynski at St. Mary’s Church in Oxford.

Andy was able to retire from the University of Iowa after 34 years of hard work and dedication. He was a proud member of AFSCME, serving as VP and union steward for the local chapter. Throughout his life, Andy had always been an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Andy is survived by his wife, Susan and son, Dakota of Oxford, who lovingly cared for him in his final days; his daughter, Sara; his siblings, Michael (Berna), Barbara (Jim), Rebecca, and Veronica (Jim), along with other extended family members.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Lambert & Alice Struzynski.
