Jack Shrader, 90, died peacefully Wednesday, November 7th at Windmill Manor in Coralville.
A memorial gathering with military honors are planned for a later date. The time and date will be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Legion Post 17.
Jack was born on July 15, 1928 in Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Truman and Tillie (Rummelhart) Shrader. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended Creighton University where he played basketball. Jack then served in the US Army 1st Cavalry in Korea. Jack married the late Florence Evans.
Jack was a finished carpenter for Burger Construction for many years, later working for McComas- Lacina. Following retirement, Jack resided in Merced, California for over 20 years with his special friend, Fran Demro. He returned to Iowa City in 2015.He was a member of the American Legion Post 17, Rod Benders Bass Club and Elk’s Club.
Jack is survived by his children, Steve Shrader of Mesa, AZ; Stan Shrader of Chariton, IA, and Scott (Cheryl) Shrader of North Liberty, IA; grandchildren, Abby Nice, Madison (John) Callahan, Jillian Shrader and Kyla Piersol; sisters, Rosie Meer of Iowa City, Anne Wade of Iowa City, Mary Jo Wagner of Omaha, NE, and Charlotte Schaffer of Cincinnati, OH; and sister-in-law, Sherri Shrader of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Bernie Shrader.
