Andrea Eden Levey, 51, died Thursday, October 4th at UIHC of complications from an aortic dissection.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM Sunday, October 7th at Agudas Achim Cemetery. A memorial service and condolence lunch will follow at 11:30 AM at Agudas Achim Synagogue, 401 Oakdale Blvd, Coralville. Rabbi Esther Hugenholtz will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Turner Syndrome Foundation.
Andrea was born June 5, 1967 in Boston, the daughter of Samuel and Linda Madison Levey.
She was a 1985 graduate of West High School. She received her bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in special education from the University of Iowa. In 2012, Andrea received a master’s degree in literacy from Northern Illinois University.
Andrea taught special education in Jacksonville, FL, Kirkland and Rockford, IL, and most recently in Davenport, IA. She began as a junior volunteer at UIHC at age 14 and was recognized for 1000 hours of service.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was actively involved in the Jewish communities in Rockford and Davenport where she was on multiple committees and taught Hebrew School and Sunday School.
Survivors include her mother, Linda of Iowa City; her twin brother, Eric (Shelly) Levey of Marriottsville, Maryland and their children Amanda and Jake; her sister, Sara (Scott) Weisenberg of Glenview, IL and their children Sidney, Jared, and Evie; special friend, Harvey Melamed; her aunt, Rita Madison and cousins Janice & Allen; and uncle, Daniel Hertz, and cousin David.
Andrea was preceded in death by her father; her grandparents Harry & Esther Levey, Jack & Evelyn Madison, as well as her aunt, Dorothea Hertz and her uncle, Norman Madison.
