For forty-eight years of his life Mr. Cherry was a resident of this county, during which time he served his county as auditor and treasurer. He was auditor from 1893 to 1895, and treasurer from 1896 to 1902.

Mr. Cherry was born in Washington county, New York, August 24, 1840 of Scotch descent. At sixteen years of age he came to this county locating on section 9 in Lincoln township.

Enlisting in Company B 14th Iowa infantry, Mr. Cherry served for three years in the Indian conflict, and in the spring of 1863 was transferred to the Seventh Iowa Cavalry, and remained in this regiment until 1864. In the hard service of his troop he always bore an active part. In 1867, he was married to Miss Minnie McClellan, a daughter of Michigan, a woman of fine personality and splendid education. Two children were born to them, Louise, now Mrs. John Ruge of Fairibault, Minnesota; and Eugene F. T. Cherry of this city.

Mr. Cherry was a member of the I.O.O.F., of the Iowa Legion of Honor; of the A.O.U.W. and of the G.A.R.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 from his late home at 836 Kirkwood Avenue. The services will be conducted by Rev. D. W. Wylie and the interment at Oakland cemetery.--Citizen

Mrs. A. R. Cherry is a sister of D. E. McClellan of this place who with his wife were in attendance at the funeral on Tuesday.
