Allen D. Stroh, 75, of Iowa City, passed away September 4th at his home surrounded by family.

A gathering to celebrate Allen’s Life will be held from 3-5 pm Sunday, September 9th at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City with a family reminiscence at 4 pm.

Allen was born on April 11th, 1943, in McCook, NE, son of Allen N. and Grace (Hnizda) Stroh. He graduated from Garner High School, Garner, IA in 1961. Following high school, Allen served five and a half years in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Henry B. Wilson (DDG-7) during the Vietnam War from 1962-67.

Allen married Molly McCoun on October 11, 1968. Allen graduated from the University of Iowa with both a B.A. in Sociology and an M.A. in Urban and Regional Planning. He was an administrator at the University of Iowa in the Facilities Management Department. He retired on June 30th, 2004. He served on the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Commission and the Iowa City Riverfront Committee.

Allen loved spending time with his family, traveling, playing golf, bicycling, snorkeling, playing bridge and spending winters in Las Vegas.

Allen is survived by Molly, his wife of 49 years; his children, Amy (Robb) Rood, Allen (Nancy Seaton) Stroh Jr., and Noah (Marie) Stroh; his grandchildren, Abigail, Lucy, and Holly Rood and Holden and Maxwell Stroh; his siblings, Sally (Stroh) Thielking, Steven Stroh, and Clifford Stroh.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, Allen and his family request that donations be made to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) www.aclu.org.
