Stanley Corwin, 96, of Iowa City, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018.
Stanley was born on June 19,1922 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the oldest of three children. Stanley was an avid reader and excelled in school. After high school, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and received a mechanical engineering degree in 1944. Shortly thereafter, he joined the navy to serve his country during World War II as an engineer.
When Stanley met Ethel he realized she was his true love and they married after a brief five-month engagement. They raised their two daughters, Roberta and Claudia, in Queens, New York. Stanley was instrumental in providing his daughters with an abundance of rich experiences, always encouraging them to discover their passions and pursue their dreams. During their elder years, Stanley and Ethel moved to Iowa City to be closer to family. Devoted to each other, Stanley and Ethel lived life to the fullest during their 60-year union.
Stanley had a quiet elegance. He was an excellent listener, who was acutely present and interested. He forged deep connections with many people from all walks of life.
Stanley’s passions included photography, skiing, fine wine, good food, and opera. He played doubles tennis into his late eighties. His most beloved destination was Mark and Roberta’s ranch in Montana.
Stanley lived until the age of 96, with clarity and an indomitable spirit, forever gracing his devoted family. He passed away in the comfort of his daughter’s home, embraced by his loved ones. His memory lives on in Roberta and Claudia, his son-in laws, Mark and Tony, and his grandchildren Jordyn, Cory, Max, Ava, and Ben - who were his pride and joy.
A celebration of Stanley’s life will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018. Services will begin at 12:00 pm, at Agudas Achim Synagogue. Burial will follow at Agudas Achim Cemetery. A meal of condolence at the synagogue will follow the burial.
