Lois M. Jacobson (nee Sand) entered eternal life on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the age of 83.

Lois was born on May 31, 1935, in Rugby, North Dakota, to Carl and Juanita Sand. Her family worshiped at First Lutheran Church in Rugby. As a girl, she enjoyed playing tennis and ping pong. Lois started taking piano lessons when she was about 7 years old. She grew up with one younger sister, Eleanor. The family had a sweet tempered Manchester terrier named, Kathy. When she was in high school, her family moved to Washington. She graduated from Puyallup High School in Puyallup, Washington. She attended Pacific Lutheran University from 1953 to 1955, and then transferred to the Lutheran Bible Institute, where she graduated in 1957.

Lois married Rev. Howard W. Jacobson on July 18, 1965, at Denny Park Lutheran Church in Seattle, Washington. She was an active partner in her husband’s ministry. Over a 30 year period, they served the yoked congregations of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Our Savior Lutheran Church, and West Fairview Lutheran Church out of Englevale, North Dakota; St. John’s Lutheran Church in Creston, Illinois; Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bethune, Colorado; and Trinity Lutheran Church in DeKalb, Illinois.

From 1983 to 2003, Lois worked at First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, Illinois, as the hospitality coordinator. Lois was a wonderful baker and frequently made homemade cinnamon rolls for church events and family gatherings. Both her children and grandchildren remember the fancy birthday cakes she would make. Lois was a gifted pianist and for a number of years, she served as a church organist. Lois showed her creative and artistic side in the creation of hundreds of beautiful Christmas ornaments and decorative Easter eggs. She enjoyed attending concerts, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and attending their events.

A devoted wife and mother, [“she is survived by her husband of 53 years and four children, Carl Jacobson (Elizabeth) of Davis Junction, Illinois; Karen Jacobson of North Liberty, Iowa; Lisa Jacobson of Haddon Township, New Jersey; and, Martha Robinson (Mark) of DeKalb, Illinois; and five grandchildren (Lars, Lydia, Lorraine, Grace and Leo).

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Wind Lake, Wisconsin, with burial to follow at the Norway Hills Cemetery in Wind Lake.

Memorial gifts may be made to Norway Lutheran Church, Wind Lake, Wisconsin.
