A native of Riverside, IA, Mary was preceded in death during childbirth by her mother Marie Lantz and raised by her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Marie Simon. Her father, Lawrence Simon married Caroline Rotenburger and Mary has three surviving half sisters, Dorothy Henderson, Maxine Simon and Delsie Hoffey, all of Iowa City.

Mary is a graduate of St. Mary’s High School Riverside, Iowa in 1946. She married Alvin Yeggy in August, 1947. Mary was an active partner in their diversified livestock and crop farming operation. Mary managed day-to-day activities while Alvin worked to supplement the family income through an independent trucking operation, also being a driver for Rock Island Motor Transit and H and W Motor.

Mary was an impeccable homemaker, gardener, canner and producer of her family’s meals. She was a parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside and an active member of their Women’s Auxiliary, volunteering countless hours at the church and rectory. She was also a member of the Riverside KUB club.

She enjoyed social times with friends and relatives and was a gracious hostess for events in her home. Mary’s presence would light up a room and she never met a stranger. She was often teased about limiting the conversation to 20 questions.

She was an avid sports enthusiast following all of her children and grandchildren’s athletic program participation and her active fanaticism for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. Mary was also an avid reader, enjoying contemporary fiction and non-fiction titles.

After Mary lost the love of her life and partner, Alvin, in 1999, she moved from the farm to Iowa City. In her recent years in Iowa City, Mary volunteered at Kate Wickham Elementary and the Johnson County Democratic Party.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband and grandchildren Travis Lee Maske and Amber Marielle Yeggy.

She is survived by her seven children, Gerry Yeggy (Kay Geary), Tom Yeggy (Eileen), Kathy Yeggy Trickey, Denise Yeggy Sieges (Tim), Janice Yeggy Schott (Jeff), Nancy Yeggy Abram (Steve), Mary Ellen Yeggy Maske (Jeff) and 19 grandchildren: Jason Yeggy, Benjamin Yeggy (Jodi), Tressa Yeggy, Amanda Yeggy Stebens (Dan), Beau Trickey (Amy), Blair Trickey Gomes (Brandon), Anna Sieges Beal (Matt), Ruth Sieges, Evan Sieges (Kayla) Jessica Schott Howell (Spencer), Nicole Schott Rawson (Matthew), Cristina Schott, Whitney Schott Plummer (Jared), Hannah Abram, Elisa Abram, Jennifer Maske, Adam Maske, Brandon Maske (Samantha) and Ryan Maske, and twelve great-grandchildren: Danielle Yeggy, Dalaney Yeggy, Benjamin Yeggy, Clare Yeggy, Griffin Howell, Catherine Howell, Emelia Beal, Bramble Beal, Kendall Trickey, Beau Trickey, Olivia Gomes and Jackson Rawson.

The Yeggy family would like to thank Mary’s friend and care provider, Emily Rudish and Legacy Senior Living for the compassionate care they provided during her senior years.
