OBITUARY

Susanna Wilhelmina Blitz was born in the village of Colleda in the duchy of Saxe-Weimar, Germany, Jan. 20, 1840, and died at her home near Sharon Center, Iowa, Dec. 1, 1913, aged 73 years, 10 months and 11 days.
In the year 1852 she, with her parents and one brother, came to America and lived near Buffalo, New York, for some years. In 1866 they moved to Iowa, locating in Sharon township, where the deceased resided until the time of her death.
She was married to Peter Jacob, on October 18, 1869. Her husband preceded her in death just twelve years ago, her death occurring on the anniversary of his burial.
Mrs. Jacob(s) was the mother of seven children: Gideon and Katie of Sharon. Willie and Eva died in infancy, Mrs. Marie Dennison of Dunlap, Iowa, Mrs. Susie Meader of Ottumwa, South Dakota and Henry of Dubuque. These were all present at her funeral, except Mrs. Meader. Her brother, Carl Frederic Blitz of Ottumwa, Iowa, was also present.
The funeral services were held at the Evangelical church, Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Roths took for the scripture lesson: Ps. 90, which he read in both German and English. The text was Prov. 4:18.
Mrs. Jacob(s) had a kind and cheerful disposition, generous almost to a fault, and never forgot a kindness received. She was a most devoted mother and her only grief in her departure was for her children who would be bereft.

Additional Information:

She also leaves behind five grand children and an only brother, Carl F. Blitz of Ottumwa, Iowa.
Mrs. Jacob(s) suffered a great deal the last few weeks. She knew that her end was near and that she soon must depart for the other world. She was perfectly resigned to His will. "It is not for me to be seeking rest Nor building my hopes in a region like this, I look for a city that hands have not piled, I pant for a country by sin undefiled. Be hushed my sad spirit. The worst that may come But shortens my journey and hastens me home."
The deceased was a good mother, a friend to all. She united with the Evangelical church many years ago under the pastorate of Rev. Klinefelter.
