Calvin Douglas Siebert, age 84, Professor Emeritus at the University of Iowa, died July 3 after a long illness. Private burial services will be held in Oakland Cemetery; a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Calvin was born February 11, 1934, the son of Ira and Margaret Siebert, and grew up in Marion, Kansas. He attended Tabor College before joining the army in 1952, serving two years in Germany, then received a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of Kansas. While at KU he met Valerie Nanninga; they were married in 1960 and both entered UC Berkeley as grad students. Calvin completed his Ph.D. in Economics in 1965 and was hired at the University of Iowa that fall.

He taught at the U of I for over 35 years, serving as chairman of the Economics department on two occasions. He received a Rockefeller Grant to teach at the University of the Philippines for the 1971-72 academic year. He authored many professional publications, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and was listed in Who's Who in America.

Cal was an avid golfer, having played on courses all over the world and hitting a hole in one on Finkbine. He attended Hawkeye basketball games for over 50 years and played bridge in local groups. Over the years he and Valerie travelled the world, including visits to all seven continents.

Calvin is survived by his wife Valerie; his sons, Douglas Siebert and Derek Siebert; his sister, Gladys Funk, and brother, Deran Siebert, both of Hillsboro, Kansas. A sister, Frances Poague, preceded him in death.
