John T. Winborn, 84, of 701 Oaknoll Drive, a former Sharon community farmer, died at Mercy Hospital Thursday afternoon after a short illness.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m., at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Sharon Center Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the church memorial fund. Friends may call today at the George L. Gay Funeral Home.

Mr. Winborn was born Dec. 1, 1887, in Kensaw [sic], Neb., the son of Alfred and Martha Gorsuch Winborn.

He married Mabel Schwimley, Sept. 7, 1910, at Sharon Center.

He attended Iowa State Teachers College, and farmed for a number of years in the Sharon community. He moved to Iowa City in 1944.

He was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, the Lions Club and several farm organizations.

Surviving are his widow; three sons, Everett of Kalona, and Milton and Walter, both of Iowa City; four daughters, Mrs. Tom (Lucille) Williams of Williamsburg, Mrs. Harvey (Alice) Thompson of Ames, Mrs. Wayne (Ester) Handsaker of Colo, Iowa, and Mrs. L. W. (Minnie) Cross of Tucson, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A brother, Lewis W. Winborn of Williamsburg; and four sisters, Mrs. L. E. (Laura) Sipple of Des Moines, Mrs. Emily Means and Mrs. Mary Means, both of Iowa City, and Mrs. R. D. (Cora) Shaw of Vinton.

John T. Winborn Dies in Iowa City

John Thomas Winborn, 84 year old Oaknoll Retirement Home resident of Iowa City died Thursday afternoon, June 22nd at Mercy Hospital after a short illness.

J. T. was born December 1, 1887 in Kenesau [sic], Nebr., to Alfred Winborn and the former Martha Gorsuch.

On September 7, 1910 he was united in mariage [sic] to Mabel Schwimley at Sharon Center.

He was a lifelong member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, an active member of the Iowa City Lions club and farmed in the Sharon community until his retirement.

Surviving are his wife and 7 children: Everett, Kalona; Mrs. Tom Williams (Lucille) Williamsburg; Milton and Russell, Iowa City; Walter, Booneville, Mo.; Mrs. Harvey Tompson (Alice), Ames; Mrs. Wayne Hardsaker (Esther), Colo; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also five sisters and one brother: Mrs. Emily Means, Iowa City; Mrs. L. E. Sipple, Des Moines; Mrs. Mary Means, Iowa City; Mrs. R. O. Shaw, Vinton; Lewis Winborn, Williamsburg and Mrs. L. W. Cross, Tucson, Arizona.
