Sara E. Barker-Jones, 48, died Friday April 27th at UIHC following a sudden illness.

Funeral Services to celebrate Sara’s life will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, May 2nd at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. Elizabeth Coulter officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hope Lodge or HACAP.

Sara was born April 22, 1970 in Iowa City. She was a 1988 graduate of City High School and attended Arizona State University. For many years Sara lived in Eugene, Oregon, where she started her family, returning to Iowa City following the death of her father in 2009.

Sara was a beloved daughter, mother, wife, and friend. She loved people, farming, music, animals, and helping others. She and Tim have raised gardens where they grew vegetables, and then donated to them to HACAP for others in need. Every wall in her home is covered with frames of smiling faces. Sara loved to laugh and always made people feel special, because she was special. Sara had the precious gift of making everyone in a room feel important and loved.

Sara survives in the hearts of her husband, Tim Jones; her son, Jackson Raffensperger and step-son, Evan Jones; her mother, Carol Barker; her mother-in-law, Patricia Jones; four dogs and three cats; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family. and countless friends who love her so dearly.

Sara was preceded in death by her father, Robert “Bob” Barker, maternal and paternal grandparents and her cousin, Ryan Wright.
