Evelyn Mary (Birrer) Knebel of Riverside, Iowa, was born May 23, 1919, on a ranch near Dillon, Montana, died April 16, 2018, at home with her family. She was a dedicated craftswoman, crocheting until the final days of her life. She farmed with her husband Rochus Knebel north of Riverside on Old 218, later working full time at the Owens Brush (later Oral B) tooth brush factory in Iowa City.

Throughout her life, she took up and mastered hobbies such that she could train others, in rug weaving, cooking, ceramics, quilting, crocheting, sewing, and writing, among other arts. She also loved politics, geography, and sports (especially baseball and golf). She continuously planned and made homemade gifts for others (literally distributed worldwide).

She is survived by her loving children, Rosemary Galer and husband Paul Galer, and Robert Knebel and wife Eddie Knebel, both of rural Riverside; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter; She leaves behind other beloved relations, friends, and neighbors.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Rochus Knebel, and children Phyllis and Richard.

Funeral services will be held with family and friends at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 11 am Thursday, April 19, 2018.
