1928-2015

Richard D. “Dick” Geyer, 86, of Kalona, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A celebration of life will be held Wedneday, April 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church in rural Kalona with Pastors Erling Shultz and James Blake officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Center United Methodist Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the American Heart Association and Sharon Center United Methodist Church.
Richard Dean Geyer was born November 6, 1928 in Johnson County, the son of Wilbur Griffith and Edna Mae (Webster) Geyer. He attended Hardin Township #2 rural school and Parnell High School. On February 14, 1948 he was united in marriage to Anna May Fountain at the Sharon Center Evangelical United Brethren Church. Dick worked at Dan Roth Hatchery, Littrell Hatchery and Keith Wilson Hatchery and Feed, English River Pellets and Sharon Feed. He also owned his own fee business. He was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. He served on the country school board, volunteered at Mercy Hospital for many years and enjoyed playing cards, camping, spending time with his family and visiting with his many friends. He was a John Deere tractor enthusiast and always loved farming, although he never had his own farm. Dick had a great sense of humor that he maintained until the end of his life. Dick was a people person, he never knew a stranger. If he saw you twice, he knew you.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years: Anna May of Kalona; three children: Linda (Noah) Kemp, Joyce (Ron) Wiles, Christine Glosser all of Kalona; seven grandchildren: Amanda Wiles, Andrew Wiles, Sara O’Donnell, Rachel Knebel, Katie Miller, Brandi Parsons, Brittany Blake; 14 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one step great-great-granddaughter; one brother: Raymond (Mary) Geyer of Wellman; one sister: Donna (John) Isaacs of Iowa City; a sister-in-law: Ruth Fountain of Kalona; a brother-in-law: Vernon Hepker of Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dick in death were his parents; one brother: Wayne Geyer; one brother-in-law: Omer Fountain; two sisters-in-law: Shirley Geyer and Vera Hepker; and one granddaughter: Angela Lynne Kemp.
