Orval L. Miller
1926-2013

Orval L. Miller, 86, or rural Wellman died Sunday, March 31 at Parkview Manor, Wellman following an 11 year battle with bladder cancer. Celebration of life services were held Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, rural Kalona. Pastor Doug Cue officiated. Burial was in the Sharon Hill Cemetery, Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice or the Sharon Center United Methodist Church.
Orval L. Miller was born Oct. 16, 1926 in Johnson County, the son of Melvin F. and Mary Yoder Miller. He attended Center High School. Orval was united in marriage to Rovona Steel on June 1, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Orval was an active member of many organizations that include: Director of Johnson County Extension Council, F. H. A. Committeeman, Johnson County Cattleman Association, Iowa State Cattleman’s Association and fund raiser, Washington Township School Board, State Certified Election official for over 50 years, Wellman Cooperative Telephone Association since 1980 and was currently serving, the Iowa City Senior Center Choir, and the Sharon Center United Methodist Church. Orval loved music and entertained with his guitar at many rest homes in the area.
Orval is survived by his wife Rovona, four children: Eldon J. Miller of Kalona, Sheldon Miller of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Maureen Clark (Richard) of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Lionel D. Miller (Debbie) of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren: Daniel, Jason and Amanda.
Orval was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Cecil; one sister: Helen Yoder.
Peterseim Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
