Samuel Cozine was born near Aurora, Dearborn Co., Indiana, Mar. 5, 1826. Died at his home in Johnson Co., Jan. 7, 1910. He was married to Elizabeth Holloway Aug. 15th, 1847. Five children were born to this union of whom Jessie J., of Iowa City, Harland J., of Albion, Mich., and James R., of Chicago survive. Their mother died in the year 1861. In 1863 the subject of this sketch was united in marriage to Melissa Pratt of Crawford Co., Pa. To them were born four children, all of whom are living.

Funeral services were held from the Brick Chapel church of which Mr. Cozine has been a consistent member for many years. He enjoyed religion and of late years waited with patience his summons. The widow and seven sons, and a host of friends mourn his departure. The funeral services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. Coover of Oasis. Interment was made in the cemetery near the church.
