Meredith Maas Jr., 59, of rural Iowa City, died Monday, Feb. 2, at his home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona.
Born June 3, 1927, in Sacramento, Calif., he was the son of Meredith Sr. and Florence Bontrager Maas. He married Donna Redfern Sept. 19, 1953, in Yarmouth.
He had lived all of his life in the Sharon Center Community and was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, rural Iowa City; one son, Randy Maas, Muscatine; one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie (Tracy) McArtor, Riverside; and one granddaughter.
Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Services for Mr. Maas will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church with the Rev. Yon Schoenmaker officiating. Burial will be in the Sharon Center Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the church.
