Martha Siegrid Josephine Edmund Winborn was born on February 27, 1912 in Ottumwa, IA, the daughter of Carl and Emma Larson Edmund. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and later attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught in rural schools and the Mid-Prairie School District until 1974. She was also a homemaker.
Martha and Everett Winborn were married in the First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa on August 5, 1944. The couple lived and farmed in the Sharon Center community. After Everett's death she moved to Pleasantview Home in 1996. Martha was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, a 50 year member of Coroan Chapter OES, and served for many years on the Johnson County Soil Conservation Board in the Education Department. Her Swedish heritage was important to her and she followed the tradition in her cooking and baking.
Martha is survived by her three children and spouses, Phil and Karen Winborn of Kalona, Marcia and Jerry Yoder of Loveland, CO., and Mary Yoder of Kalona. Also surviving are five grandchildren and spouses: Matt and Jennifer Winborn, Andy and Pat Winborn, Aron and Melissa Yoder, Stephanie and Geoff Schulte, Lindsey Yoder and seven great grandchildren: Matt's, Kiefer and Phoebe Winborn; Andy's, Megan, Scott and Lauren Winborn; and Stephanie's, Raeleigh and Kale Schulte. Other survivors are a sister, Evalyn Edmund of Ottumwa and a brother, Floyd Edmund of Indianapolis, IN.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Everett (March 1996), a son-in-law, Les Yoder (2000), three sisters, Margaret Archuleta, Becky Titterington, and Emmy Tetmeyer, and one brother Paul Edmund.
A memorial fund has been established for the Sharon Center United Methodist Church.
The family thanks everyone for the many acts of love and kindness shown them. Your care and support will always be remembered.
