Ruth Meyer, 86

Ruth E. Meyer, 86, of Riverside died following a brief illness Sunday, October 22, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church in rural Kalona, with Pastor Doug Cue officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona. An Order of Eastern Star service will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens, Iowa City.
Ruth was born October 1, 1920, to Boyd and Else Hammer Gosnell. She graduated from Center High School in rural Kalona and was a homemaker.
Ruth was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, the Corona Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the United Methodist Woman and volunteered at the Atrium Village in Hills.
Ruth married Lloyd Meyer September 18, 1943, in the Christian Church in Iowa City.
Ruth's favorite pastimes were her family and playing cards. She and Lloyd belonged to the 39'ers and a neighborhood card club for many years. She also enjoyed gardening and especially flowers.
She is survived by three sons, James Meyer of Riverside, Ronald Meyer of Riverside, and Timothy Meyer of Iowa City; one grand-daughter, Shelli Meyer; special friend Chad Miller, of Iowa City; and two great-grandchildren, Carley Marie and Maverick Lloyd Miller. She also is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, on November 4, 2005; two sisters, Beulah Kisner and Myrtle Schneider; and one brother, Charles Gosnell.
