Roy Dean was born near Sharon Center, the son of Fred and Mabel (Weeber) Meer. He graduated from Sharon Center High School. Roy farmed the family Century Farm and lived there until his death. He was married to Rose Shrader, February 16, 1963.
Roy was a member of Sharon Center United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge #549, Sharon Center, Corona Chapter #297 Order of the Eastern Star, Kalona Golf Club, Johnson County "J" Club, and the American Bowling Congress, Iowa City Hawkeye League. He was a Masonic District Lecturer, a Past Master of Fellowship Lodge and a former Director of the Sharon Telephone Company.
Roy is survived by his wife, Rose, three step children and spouses: Michael and Judy Hunzinger, Phoeniz, AZ., Thomaas and Marguerite Hunzinger, Racine, WS., and Christine Hunzinger, Newton, IA., six grandchildren: Matthew Hunzinger, Lisa Patton, Erika Hunzinger, Jason Hunzinger, Sarah Rinner, and Anne Rinner, and two great grandchildren: Andrew and Nicholas Patton.
Also surviving are two sisters: Ada (Mrs. Roy) Coy, St. Joseph's, MO. and Ida (Mrs. Jesse) Grout, Riverside, two brothers: Robert Meer, Waukesha, WS., and Gene Meer, Bettendorf.
Roy was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Grout, and two brothers Ralph and Clarke Meer.
A memorial fund for the Kalona Golf Club or Fellowship Lodge has been established.
The family wishes to thank their family and friends for the prayers, love, and support extended to them during the time of their sudden loss.
