Dorotha L. Grout, 88, of Kalona died July 3, 2006, at Pleasanview Home after a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. July 6 at Kalona United Methodist Church with Pastor Lynn Patrick officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Peterseim Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memory Gardens in Iowa City. There will be an Eastern Star Service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Dorotha was born April 9, 1918 to Ray E. and Lida Alt Smalley in Sharon Center. She graduated from Sharon Center and Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She taught in rural schools, Riverside Public School and Kalona Elementary.
She was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Alpha Club, Corona Chapter #297 Order of the Eastern Star, Iowa State Teachers Association and National Education Association.
She married Earl Grout on January 23, 1942, in rural Iowa City.
She is survived by her daughter Rita and husband John Wenger of Sarcoxie, MO; a son Russell and wife Karen Grout of Marengo; seven grandchildren, Rhonda Pudil, Nick Wenger, Gretchen Wenger, Jill Wenger, David Wenger, Denise Goodwin and Danielle Stuart. 11 great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth and wife Marcia Smalley of Iowa City; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband Earl, granddaughter Victoria Wenger and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Wenger.
Memorials can be made to the Kalona United Methodist Church, Kalona 1st Responders and Iowa City Hospice.
