Robert Leroy Dolan, 90 formerly of Iowa City, passed away peacefully Sunday April 24, 2005 in Lone Tree.
Robert was born on June 30, 1914 in Rock Island, IL to Edward and Mae (Hull) Dolan. His family moved to Iowa City as a young boy and lived on South Dubuque Street by the train station. He graduated from Sharon High School in Sharon Center, IA.
Robert married Edna Gingerich on February 26, 1939 in Iowa City. Robert and his wife Edna owned and operated Dolan's General Store in Hills from 1945-1973.
Robert was a member of the Hills Fire Department, Iowa City Bowling Board, Board of Directors of Sharon Telephone Company, Iowa City Bowling Hall of Fame and an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. As a youngster, Robert knew Nile Kinnick. For several years he attended every home and away Iowa Football Game.
Robert is survived by Edna, his wife of 66 years, two sons; Ed (Cindy) of Riverside, Steve (Lynn) of Iowa City, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one brother Bill "Gabby" Williams of Iowa City.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
A general memorial fund has been established in Robert's name.
