Rory Joseph Buchmayer, 60, of rural Iowa City, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at Mercy Hospital Hospice Care, after a long battle with multiple myeloma.

Celebration of Life services will be on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 12 noon at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. till services at the funeral home. Celebrant Scherie Gates will be officiating. Burial will follow at the family plot in Oakland Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Rory’s memory. Rory is survived by his mother, Leona Buchmayer of Solon, and three siblings; Dianna Fuhrmeister (John) of rural Iowa City, Kerry Buchmayer (Barb) of Purdin, Mo., and Barbara Zarifis (Clark) of Iowa City. In addition he had seven nieces and nephews; Amy LaGrange (Jerry) of Iowa City, Lindsey Reimer (Dan) of Cass Lake, MN, Joanna Fletcher (John) of Iowa City, Blair Buchmayer (Clenton Shippen) of Sammamish, WA, Austin Buchmayer (Leah) of Houston, TX, Megan Linnell (Jake) of Tiffin and Adam Zarifis of Iowa City.

Rory was preceded in death by his father, Karl Buchmayer and his nephew, Matt Fuhrmeister.
