Lucille E. Williams, age 87 of 701 Oaknoll Drive, Iowa City died Thursday, December 12, 2002 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday December 17, 2002, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City with the Reverends Mark Martin and Kyle Otterbein officiating. Private family committal services will be held at a later date at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg, Iowa. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City or the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg, Iowa.
Lucille was born February 23, 1915, in Sharon Center Township of Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of John Thomas and Mabel F. (Schwimley) Winborn. She graduated from Sharon Center High School. Her marriage to Thomas R. Williams of Williamsburg, took place at the Sharon Center Evangelical Church on June 22, 1944. Their home was at the Williams farm home two miles west of Williamsburg. Her husband, Thomas passed away on July 15, 1974. She moved into Williamsburg at a Circle Terrace address in December of 1976.
In October of 1985, she moved to Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City. At this time, she changed her longtime church membership from First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. She was a dedicated volunteer to R.S.V.P., receiving the Governor's award for Volunteerism five years ago. She was a member of KZ Chapter of P.E.O.
Her family includes a son and his wife, Richard L. and Jill Williams of LaCanda, CA; a daughter and her husband, Rebecca Anne and Randal Braun of Peoria, IL; granddaughters, Valerie Gail and her husband, Daniil Magdaline of San Luis Obispo, CA and Manda Suzanne Williams of LaCanda, CA; two brothers, Russell and his wife, June Winborn of Kalona, and Walter and his wife, Jeanette Winborn of Boonville, MO; sisters Alice and her husband, Harvey Thompson of Ames and Ester and her husband, Wayne Handsaker of Colo, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Martha Winborn and Charlotte Winborn both of Kalona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and two brothers, Milton and Everett Winborn.
Lucille was someone who honored all ages and generations relating to each person and their unique gifts. She loved color, sunsets, painting, drawing, laughing, sharing stories, and listening. Her hands were never still, sewing, cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting or turning a rock into a frog or lion, this was our Lucille.
