Mary Newman Schoenmaker, 94, of Methwick Manor, died there Saturday following a long illness. She was born in Ontario, Canada the daughter of Edwar George and Maud Newman Ward. She married Adrianus Schoenmaker, December 17, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA. Adrianus preceded her in death October 11, 1980.
Mary belonged to the Philadelphia Operatic Society and studied violin, piano and ballet. She was a member of Sharon Center United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Private gravside service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sharon Center Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday Oct. 24, Sharon Center United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Elisabeth Coe, Arlington, VA. and Maud Wilhelmina Jahncke, Cedar Rapids, IA. one son Adrian "Yon" Schoenmaker, Iowa City, IA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, on step great grandchild, and a great, great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, a brother, John Austin Ward and a great granddaughter.
