Mrs. Mabel Yoder Hora, 83, died Sunday November 30, 1997 at the Parkview Manor Care Center in Wellman, Iowa following an extended illness.

She was born December 29, 1913 in Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Omar R. and Emma Petsel Yoder. She graduated from Sharon Center High School in 1932 and later recieved her B.A. from the University of Iowa. She had taught in rural schools for a number of years before her marriage. On May 28, 1941 she was married to Orville Hora at Sharon Center, Iowa, he died in 1985. She had taught in the West Branch School system for many years as well as serve as the Librarian. She moved to the care center in 1993 to make her home. She was a member of the West Branch United Methodist Church and the UMW, AAUW, Iowa State Education Assoc., National Education Assoc., T.P.M. Club, Order of Eastern Star where she was past matron, The Questers, Johnson County Historical Society and the Farm Bureau where she had served as County Chairman. She had spent much time working with 4H activites, delivering Meals on Wheels, and volunteering her time at the West Branch Historical Society, Crestview Care Center and the Johnson County Historical Society.

Survivors include 2 sisters: Emily (Mrs. Wayne) Roberts and Charlotte (Mrs. Russell) Lackender both of Iowa City. 2 brothers Ted and his wife Jeanne Yoder of Camanche, Iowa and Alan C. and his wife Esther Yoder of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Many neices and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orville, and 3 brothers.

Memorial Services will be held Monday December 29, 1997 at 10:30 A.M. from West Branch United Methodist Church in West Branch with Rev. Richard M. Paulus officiating. Friends may call Monday from 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church. The Barker Funeral Home in West Branch is in charge of the arrangements.
