Delores A. Zahradnek, 82, of Iowa City passed away on Tuesday, March 6th, at the UIHC surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 am, Saturday, March 10th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 9th from 4:00 to 6:30 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed towards St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Palliative Care Unit at UIHC.

Delores was born August 2nd, 1935 in Johnson County, IA, daughter of Albert Roy and Lillian Marie (Maier) Spenner. She attended country school and graduated from Kalona High School in 1953.

Delores began working in 1952 at Farmer’s National Bank in Kalona, Iowa. On August 13th, 1955, Delores married Wayne “Dick” Zahradnek at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Dick and Dee have five children, Laura, Larry, Diana, Daryl and LeRoy.
Delores also worked at the Elks Club and the U of I Athletic Club; followed by more than 25 years of service with the University of Iowa. She retired in June of 1996.

Dee enjoyed reading, baking, and gardening, especially in her flower beds. She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a contributor to the Alter and Rosary Society.

Delores is survived by her loving children; Laura (Jeff) Price, Larry (Connie) Zahradnek, Diana (Russell) Brown, Daryl (Jennifer) Zahradnek and LeRoy Zahradnek; her five grandchildren, Nick Price, Lee (Jacqui) Price, Wayne Zahradnek, Aaron (Sharon) Zahradnek and Leeza Brown; her two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Hunter Zahradnek; her sisters, Phyllis Zahradnek and Mary Carter; her brother-in-law, Dean Amelon and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Zahradnek, her parents, Albert and Lillian Spenner, her sister, Carolyn Amelon and her grandson, Trevor Brown.
