Rosemary Kay Younce, 71, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
Rosemary was born on September 1, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Vernon Edward and Rosella Mary (Kelley) Maher. She grew up on a farm near Nolan Settlement in Johnson County and graduated from West Branch High School in 1964. Following high school, she attended the University of Iowa. Rosemary and Stanley Martin Younce were married August 29, 1969. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Oklahoma University and went on to obtain her master’s degree in Library Science from Central State College, Edmond, Oklahoma in 1971.

Rosemary taught elementary school at St John’s Episcopal School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for 5 years before she and Stan moved back to Iowa. She taught 5th and 6th grades at St Joseph’s Catholic School in Marion for over 30 years, before retiring in 2008.
Rosemary loved reading, family history, scrapbooking, decorating for the holidays and spending time with her family and her cats, Diamond, Socks, and Miss Kitty.
Survivors include her husband Stan of Cedar Rapids; daughter Jennifer Tenge of New Hampton; grandchildren Kiersten, Ben and Bailee Tenge, of New Hampton; brother, Vernon Maher of Sacramento, New Mexico; niece, Keista (John) Mason, and nephews Sean (Jackie) Maher, Cory and Chad Barta.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister, Jackie Barta.
In accordance with Rosemary’s wishes there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
